Stephane Germain, CEO and founder of GHGSat, was named to the inaugural TIME100 Climate list, which recognizes the 100 most influential leaders driving business climate action. The award comes the same week that GHGSat made history, launching GHGSat C10, or “Vanguard,” the world’s first commercial satellite focused on monitoring industrial sources of CO2 down to the level of an individual facility. Using the same high-resolution technology as GHGSat’s methane monitoring satellites, Vanguard is set to revolutionize the way carbon dioxide emissions are monitored, reported, and traded.
To assemble the list, TIME’s editors and reporters fielded nominations and recommendations from industry leaders and partner organizations like Global Optimism and The B Team, as well as TIMECO2’s Advisory Council, then worked to assess the candidates on a variety of factors, including recency of action, measurable results and influence.
Founded in 2011 by Germain, GHGSat is the global leader in greenhouse gas emissions intelligence, offering the most extensive coverage and frequent measurements, with an unmatched sensitivity for detection, quantification and rapid emissions data delivery. Since launching its first satellite, Claire, in 2016, GHGSat has expanded their constellation to 12 satellites, providing essential emissions data to address and mitigate sources of emissions with unprecedented accuracy. Over the last two years, GHGSat has enabled the mitigation of 5.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions from industrial facilities around the world, which is equivalent to over 1.2 million gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for one year.
