It all started six years ago, with our demonstrator satellite, ‘Claire,’ named after the daughter of Jason, our Science and Systems Lead. For the parents and the kids alike, it makes pioneering technology orbiting the Earth more tangible and real, reinforcing the climate urgency. Naming satellites after our team members’ children continues in the upcoming launch of our three new satellites: Juba (GHGSat C-9), Vanguard (GHGSat C-10), and Elliot (GHGSat C-11).

The names are submitted and voted internally. . With more satellites to be launched in the coming years, many more children can hope to see their names go up into orbit, contributing to the ongoing efforts to combat climate change.

The upcoming launch of GHGSat C-10 ‘Vanguard,’ named after our Marketing Director Mieka’s son, holds special significance as it marks the world’s first commercial CO2 monitoring payload. It stands as a significant leap in our mission to combat greenhouse gas emissions and symbolizes ‘leadership’—the very essence of the name. “Names matter. Vanguard (8) is conscious of climate change. Having his name associated with this pioneering technology dedicated to CO2, it’s a strong message for the younger generations”, remarked Mieka.
Payloads are designed with advanced sensing technology to detect emission sources, providing valuable emissions data to support industries and governments in achieving their emission reduction targets.
