As we reflect on another successful year at CERAWeek 2025, we’re proud to have been a part of the dynamic conversations shaping the future of energy. The conversations around methane mitigation are no longer just about setting goals but rather focused on how quickly the industry can scale up emissions reductions. While the urgency of emissions reduction has been building up for years, the recent shifts in regulatory frameworks, AI-driven innovations, and geopolitical pressures are reshaping the business case for methane action.
Hosted in Houston from March 10–14, CERAWeek brought together global energy leaders, policymakers, and investors to discuss the future of energy in a world increasingly focused on energy security and profitability. The theme—”Moving Ahead: Energy Strategies for a Complex World”—reinforced a growing reality: companies that can prove lower emissions intensity are securing a competitive edge in financing, partnerships, and market differentiation.
For oil and gas operators, the urgency around methane reduction was impossible to ignore. Through panel discussions and key speaking engagements, we showcased how our high-resolution methane data is giving operators a clearer view of their emissions, helping them reduce gas losses, optimize operations, and protect long-term profitability.
GHGSat’s Key Takeaways from CERAWeek 2025
This year, GHGSat’s participation in eight key sessions highlighted our role in the methane mitigation conversation and the growing demand for high-resolution data. During the session “Demystifying Methane Mitigation: How Satellites Pinpoint Methane Leaks at Speed and Scale,” our CEO Stéphane Germain pointed out the various methane detection technologies currently available and how satellites offer a unique, scalable solution. Drawing from our near decade of experience, he explained how operators need both large-scale monitoring and granular insights to take corrective action rapidly.
Collaboration is the Only Way Forward
Germain joined a panel of leaders from Insight M, Bridger Photonics, and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to discuss the evolving landscape of methane measurement technology. One of the key takeaways was that no single technology can alone solve the emissions challenge. Through combining technologies, operators can access both targeted surveys and real-time, high-frequency monitoring—ensuring a comprehensive approach to emissions reduction.
Operators Want Actionable Data—Not Just More Data
In a session with MiQ, Chevron, and Insight M, Jean-François Gauthier, our SVP of Strategy, highlighted how reducing methane leaks helps companies cut costs, prevent gas losses, and optimize their processes, reinforcing the economic benefits of emissions reduction.
Disparate Data Sources Need to be Harmonized
With so many different methane monitoring technologies available and without proper integration, data can become fragmented. In the “Harmonizing Disparate Datasets” panel, GHGSat joined Highwood Emissions, Project Canary, and S&P Global to discuss the urgent need for industry-wide consistency in emissions reporting. Jean-François Gauthier shared how GHGSat has successfully tackled this challenge by bringing together disparate datasets into a unified platform, allowing operators to make data-driven decisions based on a single source of truth.
Large and Small Emitters Require Different Strategies
Not all methane sources are the same. In the “Large to Small Emitters” panel, GHGSat’s Jean-François Gauthier joined experts from MethaneSAT, Carbon Mapper, and EDF to discuss how satellite technology is uncovering both large, super-emitter events and smaller, persistent leaks. Each requires a tailored approach, reinforcing the need for granular, facility-level emissions intelligence.
OGMP 2.0 & The Push for the ‘Gold Standard’ in Methane Reporting
OGMP 2.0 was a hot topic throughout CERAWeek, with many companies working toward Level 4 and 5 certifications. The discussions were around how aligning ground, aerial, and satellite data ensures credibility and the industry’s push toward standardized, high-fidelity emissions reporting.
The Industry Isn’t Waiting for Regulations—It’s Moving Ahead
While some methane regulations are being scrutinized or rolled back, the industry is not slowing down. Companies understand that:

- Responsibly sourced gas (RSG) is emerging as a premium product, and companies want to differentiate themselves now.
At our session, “The Path to Energy Security: Achieving Global Competitiveness with Emissions Data,” panelists from Chevron, MIQ, and Insight M discussed how operators are using verified emissions data as a strategic advantage. The energy sector is shifting toward a “verified emissions” model, where companies that prove lower emissions intensity gain an edge in financing and partnerships.
