From methane awareness to methane mitigation, GHGSat’s constellation growth is taking action beyond measurement. Last year, GHGSat launched three new satellites into space dedicated to monitoring greenhouse gas emissions. Our satellite constellation has now become a might force of twelve with one specifically designed to track CO2 emissions. Let’s look at how they impacted our monitoring capabilities.

Background:

Monitoring greenhouse gas emissions is a complex and important task. Identifying industrial emission sources, quantifying emissions, and verifying emission reductions all require accurate and reliable data, ideally from a third party. However, traditional methods of monitoring can be time-consuming, expensive, and limited in their coverage. This is where satellites come in. Satellites can cover large areas quickly, frequently, and cost-effectively, providing a wealth of data that can help reduce emissions.

Observations and facilities monitored:

This expansion isn’t just about numbers. Thanks to our satellite constellation, we were able to take 93% more observations and monitor 386% more facilities than before, reaching a staggering 3 million. This means that our customers now have an increased capacity to monitor their sites and a shorter revisit time to ensure more accurate data on leaks. With more accurate and timely emissions data from their sites, our customers can take faster ground action to reduce their emissions, helping to mitigate the impact of climate change.
