GHGSat’s ambitious expansion plans are making headlines. SpaceQ, a trusted source for Canadian and global space news, recently featured GHGSat’s announcement to launch nine new satellites by the end of 2026, nearly doubling its fleet of methane emissions monitoring satellites.
The additional satellites will allow GHGSat to revisit industrial sites more frequently, detecting and measuring methane emissions on a near-daily basis. With methane responsible for a significant portion of global warming, this expansion represents a critical step in tackling one of the most impactful levers for climate action.
GHGSat already operates the world’s largest commercial satellite constellation dedicated to tracking greenhouse gases. In 2023 alone, its satellites made more than three million observations in 85 countries, identifying nearly 16,000 large methane emissions. With this scale-up, GHGSat is set to fill a crucial gap, providing industries, governments, and regulators with the data they need to act on methane reduction targets.
