GHGSat supports Cheniere Energy in R&D collaborative project

GHGSat, a leader in high-resolution greenhouse gas monitoring from space, is proud to support Cheniere Energy – the largest producer of liquefied natural gas in the US – in its latest collaborative project, alongside other emission monitoring technology providers. The project also includes five natural gas producers and several leading academic institutions to implement quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions performance at natural gas production sites.

The transparent measurement, monitoring, and reporting of methane is at the core of GHGSat’s offering. This collaborative R&D initiative, led by Cheniere Energy, will utilize GHGSat’s high-resolution satellite monitoring technology to establish baseline emission levels, monitor sites for methane emission sources, and provide insight allowing operators to identify opportunities to reduce emissions. GHGSat’s full suite of satellite data products and services can deliver unique insight over large areas with multiple assets in a single observation.

The initial phase of the Cheniere Energy project will cover assets in the Hayesville, Permian, and Appalachian basins, all of which GHGSat currently operates and has actively identified methane emissions with its proprietary sensors. By detecting and identifying the sources of emissions on a more frequent basis, GHGSat provides the intelligence companies, and governments need to take action with regards to methane emission reduction initiatives.
