Stéphane Germain 

Founder, President & CEO 

Stéphane Germain founded GHGSat in 2011, pioneering the use of satellite technology to monitor greenhouse gas emissions from industrial facilities worldwide. Under his leadership, GHGSat has grown into the world’s foremost emissions intelligence company, working as a trusted partner with many of the world’s largest industrial operators and governments. Stéphane started his career as an engineer at Spar Aerospace and consultant at Bain & Company, advanced to senior leadership roles for 10 years in large Canadian aerospace companies, and ultimately acquired Xiphos Technologies in 2010 and founded GHGSat in 2011. He holds a BSc in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University and an MBA from INSEAD. 

Emilie Hamel

MBA, PMPm Chief Operating Officer

Emilie Hamel is GHGSat’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for scaling the operations, technology, and processes that power the company’s global emissions monitoring platform. She has been with GHGSat for nearly eight years, progressing from Program Manager to COO and playing a central role in growing the organization from a 15-person startup to a 150-person company. Prior to GHGSat, Emilie managed a $50M defense aerospace program at CMC Electronics. She holds an MBA, a BBA in Supply Chain Management from HEC Montréal and a BA from Université Laval.

Sonia Kim 

Chief Product Officer

Sonia Kim is GHGSat’s Chief Product Officer, leading global product strategy across the company’s satellite, airborne, and analytics solutions. Prior to GHGSat, she spent 15 years at S&P Global, most recently as Global Head of Product for Sustainable, where she built the firm’s sustainability data and analytics suite and integrated major acquisitions including Trucost and SAM. Earlier in her career, Sonia held senior product and strategy roles at Moody’s Analytics and Fitch Solutions. She holds an MBA from NYU Stern and a BA from Barnard College.

Jeffrey Kadanoff, P.Eng., MBA 

Chief Financial Officer 

Jeffrey Kadanoff is GHGSat’s Chief Financial Officer, bringing over 30 years of experience in finance, strategy, and corporate development across climate tech, healthcare, and consumer industries. He has held CFO roles at multiple public and private companies and spent five years as Managing Director at Esplanade Ventures, an early-stage digital health fund. Earlier in his career, Jeff worked as a professional engineer and as a consultant at Bain & Company. He holds a B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering with Distinction from McGill University and an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD.  

Pierre-Luc Lemire 

Vice President, Finance 

Pierre-Luc Lemire is GHGSat’s Vice President of Finance, overseeing the company’s financial operations and reporting. He has been with GHGSat for nearly eight years, having joined as Financial Controller in 2018 before being appointed VP Finance in 2024. Prior to GHGSat, Pierre-Luc held divisional controller roles at Averna and began his career in audit at Deloitte Canada. He holds an MSc in Financial Accounting and a BAA in Accounting from the Université de Sherbrooke. 

Paul Noseworthy 

Vice President, Software Development 

Paul Noseworthy is GHGSat’s Vice President of Software Development, leading the engineering teams responsible for building and scaling the technology behind GHGSat’s global emissions monitoring platform. A Computer Engineering graduate of the University of Waterloo, Paul brings over two decades of software leadership experience, including nearly 13 years at Wind River where he rose to VP of Engineering. He holds a PMP certification, an active Secret Security Clearance, and has deep expertise in cloud computing, analytics, AI, ML, and embedded systems. 

Ryan Mattson 

Vice President, Oil & Gas 

Ryan Mattson leads GHGSat’s Oil & Gas business, helping operators across the sector access and act on high-resolution methane monitoring data. He joined GHGSat in 2021 and brings nearly two decades of oil and gas experience, having spent over 15 years at Halliburton in technical, sales, and management roles across Canada, the U.S., Singapore, and Russia. Ryan holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta. 

Dan Wicks 

Managing Director, UK 

Dan Wicks is GHGSat’s UK Managing Director and leads its global government business. He has extensive experience in Earth observation innovation and strategy, most notably leading EO programs at the Satellite Applications Catapult. Dan currently serves as Vice Chair of Space4Climate and is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He holds a BSc in Geography and an MSc in GIS & Remote Sensing from the University of Leicester.

 Maria Balafoutis 

Vice President, Legal 

Maria Balafoutis is GHGSat’s VP of Legal, overseeing the company’s legal affairs with a focus on integrity, compliance, and supporting business growth. Having joined as Director of Legal & Contracts in 2020, she was appointed VP Legal in 2024 and ensures contracts are structured to protect the company’s interests while enabling strategic growth. Prior to GHGSat, Maria spent over two decades at CMC Electronics in progressively senior legal and commercial roles. She holds an LLB in Law from the Université de Montréal.
