GHGSat operates the world’s first satellite system capable of monitoring greenhouse gas (GHG) and air quality gas (AQG) emissions from any industrial site in the world. GHGSat’s first satellite, GHGSat-D (or “Claire”) was launched in June 2016 and is measuring sites around the world every day. Two more satellites are also on order.

GHGSat Technology v2

GHGSat’s system:

  • Targets a miniature spectrometer, on a nanosatellite, at individual emissions sources
  • Detects specific gases from those sources with innovative algorithms
  • Delivers unique data products to customers
  • Requires no on-site equipment or presence

Gases are monitored with a precision in parts per million / billion, depending on the species, with spatial resolution in tens of meters.
